Euro+Med use case¶
Outline¶
coordinate and integrate revision throug several taxonomic experts
integrate opinion of additional 20+ regional advisors
revise taxonomy
revise nomenclature (including nomenclatural references even for synonyms)
revise distribution (including source of atomised distribution information)
create on-line checklist reflecting possible continuous revisions
Initial checklist¶
existing datasets (Flora Europaea, Flora Macaronesia and Med-Checklist) were merged into a single database
data have been updated according to new Floras and monographies
family reports were generated from the database for taxonomic experts to start revision
data have been migrated to a Berlin-Model compliant database
Workflow¶
First step¶
create from BM database MS-Word files with nomenclature, taxonomy and distribution for the main taxonomic experts (editors) in such a format that content modifications can be directly parsed and integrated in the database
editors revise mainly nomenclature and taxonomy; each editor is supported by taxonomic experts in particular taxonomical groups with whom he stays in continuous dialog
editors complete taxonomical revision and let it beeing integrated into the database
Second step¶
create from BM database MS-Word files with nomenclature, taxonomy and distribution for the regional advisors to verifiy, modify and complete distribution data
editors verify the work done by the regional advisors and let it beeing integrated into the database
Both steps or part of them can be repeated as long or as soon as editors consider it necessary
Interfaces to the database¶
In order to input new data in the database during the revision process:
either editors use the implemented internet taxonomic editor
or editors provide MS-Word files in a specified format to be parsed
In both cases former nomenclature and reference data will not be deleted but only updated if necessary
In order to make data available:
- data are published on-line for querries
Roles¶
editors (or persons they designate to handle in their name) have access to the implemented internet taxonomic editor and may submit formated MS-Word files to be parsed
other taxonomic experts and regional advisors have no direct access to the database but can submit their opinion to the editors by editing the formated MS-Word files
as far as data are published on-line for querries they are accessible for every internet user
