By default, a carriage return from a taxon record in the <strong>Taxon Name</strong> panel will create a new text box for a heterotypic synonym, as

detailed above. Homotypic synonyms can be added using a drop-down menu:

Point the mouse arrow into the text box for the taxon to which you are attaching a homotypic synonym and click the right mouse button; a drop-down

menu will appear.

Point the mouse at the <strong>New</strong> option at the top of the menu; a new menu will appear.

Another text box will appear in the <strong>Taxon Name</strong> panel, below that of the root taxon/accepted name for which you are entering a synonym.

4. Enter the name of the synonym.
