<div type="discussion"><p>The fruits of this species are believed to be its best distinguishing feature and also the rachis is reported to lack spines abaxially. The presence or absence of spines on the knee is unlikely to be a reliable character (contra Wang 1997) since in closely related species this is a highly variable character even along a single stem.</p></div>
