We should discuss whether this should open only the selected taxon or the subtree of the selected taxon.

in principle I would expect the same behaviour as in the Taxon Navigator (i.e. opening the subtree) – so usage is intuitive. However, this may not be always the most practical way to enter, e.g., the individual distribution of a higher-ranked taxon – but this applies to both, Navigator and Search result.
I opt for both behaving the same way. Perhaps for taxa of generic or higher rank an additional option “Open in ...” Distribution editor (this taxon only) could be added, but I don’t think this is urgent.
I assume that synonyms and MANs in the search result will not have this option at all?

Maybe we can do a count before opening the distribution editor. If count is >100 (or any other number) we may ask the user if opening full subtree is really wanted.
