I do not understand the intention of this ticket, if a default value exist no exact values from the specimen should be entered?

In general it should be possible to allow overriding a default value. The idea behind is that a default value sometimes is only used to avoid entering data e.g. if 95% of the specimens of a higher taxon have the same value we may want to only enter those data which are deviating (assuming that all others have the same default value). On the other hand, if a default value is valid for 100% of the specimens it is a general character value for the higher taxon and we may remove the column from the matrix if the matrix includes only taxa that are covered by this default value. This is for simplifying the matrix during editing.
However, default values are currently not yet much in use and also in larger matrixes we often don't have default values that cover all taxa of the matrix therefore this ticket is probably not really urgent.
Therefore I suggest to close this ticket as wontfix and open a new one with more specific description once it is needed.
