[DISCUSS] How to correctly show name relationship "orth. var." in dataportal
0%
Description
Currently we can display name relationships only as "non xxx". However, for name relationships of type "orth. var." this is not usable. We may want to have another text. How should it look like?
Maybe it is even enough to only show "orth. var." if the name is in the same homotypical group as the correctly spelled name. We have this once in Flora of Greece.
Also orth. var. not always is given with the correct name so maybe we need to have it as a status too for dirty/incomplete data.

I am having two questions regarding the ticket description:
Maybe it is even enough to only show "orth. var." if the name is in the same homotypical group as the correctly spelled name.
- My understanding of this relation is that the relation is not marking any none of both names as correct and the other as incorrect.
- According to the documentation of the relationship type
ORTHOGRAPHIC_VARIANT
the names involved into such relationship are required to be in the same homotypical group. So there is only this case to be respected.
Also orth. var. not always is given with the correct name so maybe we need to have it as a status too for dirty/incomplete data.
This can not be expressed through a name relation and thus should be copied into another ticket if still relevant.

since different projects may require different representation. See for example #7975 where "has orthographic variant" is expected to be labeled as "corrected name". Therefore it may be better to set "orth. var." as abbreviated label to this term in the default language, or as symbol
.
I implemented and setup the test data in that way, but we will still need to update the term via a database update script.

This is a DISCUSS ticket not an implementation ticket therefore it was originally assigned to me as we need to discuss it with the users. No implementation is expected yet.
