Description

Is our registry model (cdmlib) compatible with the GNA?

Documentation on GNA: https://github.com/GlobalNamesArchitecture/GlobalNamesArchitecture.github.io

"GNUB, the Global Names Usage Bank, will be the core of GNA. GNUB will be the means by which we index and organize our recorded knowledge that we have about life on earth (well at least all of the recorded knowledge that is available on-line in a digital format)." (http://globalnames.org/docs/gnub/)

Therefore the AlgeaRegistry schould be compatible to the GNUB data schema which is published in Pyle, R.L. 2004. Taxonomer: a relational data model for managing information relevant to taxonomic research. Phyloinformatics, 1:1-54.

Hi Henning,

Do we really need to do that compatibility check? We will base the registry on the CDM. The cdm model will be extended so that it meets the requirements of the registration (#6044). If we actually do the GNA compatibility check and if this check reveals some incompatibility, which consequence would be following this finding? Would we change the CDM accordingly? I guess not.

Isn’t the deeper meaning of this ticket to assure that the names in the registry can be indexed by GNA? I would assume that this should be possible anyway. I could not find any documentation on GNA as index and on the required characteristics of sources to be indexed. Do you know any such reference documentation?

We are for sure compatible since the cdm already has a DwC-A export which can be consumed by GNA services. Potentially the export might have to be adapted for the registry.
