Adding Taxa to your Taxonomic Tree the quick way

Once you have created your first Classification, you can add taxa to build up your database according to your taxonomic treatment. You add taxa to your classification by creating a new taxon linked to both the classification and a parent taxon if appropriate. The following description is the quickest way to add a new taxon to your tree:

Point the mouse arrow at the Classification or the intended parent taxon of your new taxon. As you hover over the entries in the Taxon Navigator panel they will become highlighted and a hand icon will appear.

  1. Click the right mouse button; a drop-down menu will appear.
  2. Point the mouse at the New option; a drop-down menu will appear.
  3. Click Taxon :

  4. Enter the name of the taxon, including authorship if you wish.
  5. Click the Finish button or press the Return button on the keyboard:

The new taxon record will appear in the Taxon Navigator panel and is saved automatically:

You can continue to add new taxa to any node in the classification in this way in order to build up your taxonomic treatment. To create and manage synonyms and other relationships, see Managing Taxonomic Relationships. .

If you want to open the taxon record to view the parsing status of the information you have input (see Parsing Status Feedback ) or add to or edit the record (see the following section), simply double-click the taxon name in the Taxon Navigator panel.
