The Menus

General

The General menu has the following options:

• New; for creating a new Taxon or Reference, name, person, specimen or classification
• Close; Close All; Save; Save All; these functions operate on the taxon or taxa records that are open in the Freetext panel.
• Import; for importing data for an existing database or file.
• Export; for exporting data to a database or file.
• Login; to open the User login pop-up box.
• Exit; for closing the Taxonomic Editor.
• Recently opened records are listed at the bottom of the menu. Click on a taxon name in this list to open the taxon in the Freetext panel.

Edit

• Undo; Redo; these commands are currently operational only when using the Bulk Editor (see below).
• Cut; Copy; Paste; Delete; these commands apply to all panels of the Taxonomic Editor apart from the Taxon Navigator panel where only the Delete function works.

Window

The Window menu lets you open other editors and views that are not visible yet or have been closed before.

• Bulk Editor; The Bulk Editor is used to edit lists of:
  • Names
  • Name Relationship
  • References
  • Specimens or Observations
  • Authors and Author Teams

• Show View;
  • Taxon Navigator
  • Polytomous Keys
  • Descriptive
  • Media
  • Concept
  • Details
  • Supplemental
  • Datasource
  • Messaged
  (see Customising the Taxonomic Editor).
• Preferences; for managing preferences (see Customising the Taxonomic Editor).

• Help Contents shows this help document
• Search for a string in the help document
• Parser Help Website Information on the rules that are used by the parser
• Check for Updates (Not yet functional).
• Install New Software Software Updates; to access any available updated from the EDIT WP5 website (Not yet functional).
• About Taxonomic Editor; to access feature, plug-in and configuration details.
