A short and quick comparison of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) and the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN). There also is a very useful [http://scientific.thomson.com/support/products/zr/zoological-glossary/ They look very similar and it seems they mostly use a different formatting for the same underlying ideas - sometimes not expressed explicitly though in one or the other.

  • Zoo: senior/junior Hom.
  • secondary Hom. are names with the same genus name, but not at the same time. Therefore there is no problem or need to change them.
  • Bot: later/earlier Hom.
Misapplied names

Subgenera

Zoo: if a subgenus exists it may be cited in paranthesis between the genus and the species epitheton. E.g: Ala (lies) alume 1973 Bot: subgenera are not part of a species name.
